Sophie Rose is a singing human, multi-instrumentalist, teacher, and maker of things. She is a singer, extended vocal technique enthusiast, composer, improviser, performer, and maker. Originally from New Zealand, Rose incorporates Māori mythology into many of her works and builds new technologies with collaborator, Cloud Unknowing. She performs with Sophie Rose & the Manual Breathing and surrealist music collective Little Songs of the Mutilated. Rose has a powerful, flexible voice which she uses to express ideas from ethereal to everyday. Heavily influenced by non-western music and language, such as Katajjaq, Umngqokolo-Ngomqangi, and Māori culture, Rose subverts language and preconceived notions of feminine beauty.
