Burning House Press are excited to welcome KARISSA LANG as our fourth guest editor! Karissa will take over editorship of Burning House Press online for the full month of May – when she will then hand over the reins to our fifth guest editor for the month of June.

Submissions for Karissa are open from today – 1st May and will remain open until 24th May.

Karissa’s Theme/s for the month are as follows

Crisis • Creation • Multiplicity • Singularity

Karissa has introduced her theme/s herself for your guidance:

Identity exploration as a theme is certainly not new. It may even be hackneyed. However, I think we’re up to the challenge of pushing it further into new, fresh, and unexpected territory (I believe in you). I love a good taboo subject such as sexuality or mental illness, but exploration through the prisms of ethnicity, class, gender etc. will always work—and please feel free to delve into the existential, psychological, spiritual or scientific, if you are so inclined.

I’m partial to courage and vulnerability. Voices and perspectives that are marginalized and unacceptable, turn me on. Everything’s game! All in all, I just want your notion of identity to surprise me or feel like a special, secret gift. I’m looking for work that almost makes you afraid to hit send on your submission email. But work that you have absolutely no reservations about submitting is desired as well.

I am moved by experimental forms, visual mediums, and mixed media but please do not let that stop you from submitting your very thoughtful Haiku. I love lo-fi and immediacy but please don’t let that stop you from submitting that work you have toiled over with precision for years.

Karissa Lang is a writer and artist who moonlights as a clairvoyant medium and copywriter. She is taking an unintentional/undesired sabbatical in her native state of Texas but has called Chicago, Los Angeles, Barcelona, and New York City home. She hasn’t published much work because she hasn’t really tried, but did manage to win a screenwriting competition back in 2008. Southern gothic literature, black and white photography, auteur cinema, and menswear keeps her relatively pleased in this cruel, cruel world.
